SINGAPORE T-217 SUBWAY PROJECT
The Singapore subway Thomson Line T217 project encompasses a station and two tunnels, each measuring 754 meters in length, with a minimum turning radius of 400 meters. The tunnel has a diameter of 6.6 meters, while the borehole diameter is 5.8 meters, and the segment thickness measures 27.5 cm. A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) manufactured by Herrenknecht in Germany was employed for tunneling operations. Initially, the starting shaft was positioned vertically before transitioning to horizontal alignment. Construction officially commenced on June 6, 2014, with TBM tunneling beginning on June 8, 2016; the entire project was completed within a span of 209 days. Throughout construction, the tunnel traversed sensitive locations including the Australian Embassy, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese Embassy, as well as private residences belonging to both Singapore’s Prime Minister and senior officials—rendering the construction environment highly complex. The civil works for the tunnel were completed by May 30, 2018; those for the station were finalized by July 30, 2018; and contract handover occurred on December 30, 2020.
